Work

Software for Research

Lead Programmer — Jul '20...

I build software to help researchers conduct behavioral and cognitive therapy studies. At any given time I'm responsible for the ongoing product design, full stack development, and support of software for a half dozen ongoing studies.

SCHED

Product Designer — Jan '20...Jul'20

I joined SCHED as the only product and marketing designer at the company. In my short time there we took on a full redesign of the marketing website, and several ambitious new features for web, iOS, and Android (like native ticketing). Unfortunately the pandemic brought the event industry to a halt, and my time here was cut short.

Files.com

Senior Product Designer — Mar '19...Oct'19

I joined Files.com in my first role primarily designing software. I designed features used by tens of thousands of people, built out new sections of our documentation, and contributed to our open source system for managing the company called avOS.

Dockhound

Cofounder — Nov '17...

In college I drove forklifts at two different dry storage marinas. From that experience came the idea for Dockhound, a software product built specifically for dry storage marinas. In late 2017 I began building Dockhound with two cofounders, and less than 6 months later we had our first customer. The product still turns a small profit and keeps customers happy.

Momentum Learning

Instructor — Feb '18...June '20

I taught a 7 day coding fundamentals course at Momentum covering the basics of programming, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The course served as a primer for students entering a 12 week immersive program.

Volunteer Mentor — Nov '17...Jan '18

I held office hours and helped students work through programming problems, debug their code, and reason out product development challenges.

Sturdy

Cofounder — Apr '15...Mar '18

I cofounded a software design & development firm called Sturdy in 2015. Running a business on an agency model proved exciting and challenging. I spent the majority of my time working directly with clients to understand their needs, and then building a solution with the team. We worked with dozens of clients, large and small, and learned a lifetime's worth of lessons.

Fugitive Labs

Product Strategist — Jun '20...Jul '22

I rejoined Fugitive part-time in 2020 to help their clients work on product development and strategy. I worked directly with founders, and our development team to decide what to build next.

Front End Programmer — Mar '14...Sep '15

My first full-time role as a programmer exposed me to many different technologies and methods for building apps in a short period of time. I was tasked with visual design and implementation of features across dozens of internal and client applications. I was given space to try weird things, and learn from my mistakes, for which I am forever grateful.

Proficient Learning

Operations Manager — Jul '13...Sep '13

Functionally the same as the associate role, just with a fancier title. I began to experiment with building custom software during this time, teaching myself some coding basics and hacking things together.

Associate Manager of Operations — Mar '13...Jul '13

My job was to oversee the company's operations, find ways to improve our processes, and save us money in the long term. My initial focus was on leveraging cloud based software tools to replace dated analog processes like time tracking, expense reporting, and candidate pooling.

Designer — May '11...Mar '13

I worked with a small team of designers to build sales training curriculum for most of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. On any given project I could be writing content, organizing complex information into digestible chunks, designing visual systems, or creating custom graphics.

Education

Starter School

Product Development Program — 2013...2014

Starter School was a software product development program delivered over three topic focused semesters: computer science & software development, visual design & front-end development, and the business of software. Each semester was three months long, and extremely formative for me in how I think about building products.

Cameron School of Business

B.S. Business Administration — 2009...2011

I studied Business at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. My curriculum in the business school focused on Entrepreneurship & Business Development.
